Retaining Wall Completion

We finished the retaining wall and are in the process of backfilling in preparation to start construction on the office building. The footings contain a shear key and the wall itself was constructed with slip joints for any expansion or contraction. Weep holes were placed every 25' and a perferated drain pipe sits at the base of the wall to drain excess water. The edges of the retaining have been chamfered to give the wall a finished look as the top portion of the wall will remain exposed.

Geneva Rock Park City

Double P started it’s latest project last week, it is a new batch plant complex for Geneva Rock in Park City, Utah. Geneva Rock was established in 1954 and is currently the largest ready mix concrete supplier in Utah. Double P Construction has been a customer of Geneva Rock for years and is proud to be hired as a general contractor for their new batch plant.

Double P has been contracted to build a retaining wall and four buildings for Geneva Rock. The retaining wall is 180 feet long and varies in height from 7’ to 11’ tall walls. This structure must be completed first, because the Office Building will be built above, approximately 10 feet from the wall. The Office is a two story wood framed building that will house the plant mixer controls and also will serve as administrative offices for Geneva. Double P will perform all of the building activities from excavation to finish.

The second building will enclose the plant mixer, and will have a height of 78 feet. It is steel construction and Double P will perform the CMU work, steel building erection and exterior siding work. Adjacent to the plant mixer building another steel building that will hold admixtures used in different concrete designs will be built. All construction will be performed by Double P for the admixture building. Last a steel building to hold aggregates will be constructed nearby so that the material can be moved with a conveyor directly into the mixer plant.

These additions and improvements will add to the capabilities of the batch plant and aid in the production of concrete for Geneva Rock.
