The old way was to work with in-house estimators for all building costs through the design phase of the project. With every change to the design information was sent to the building manufacturer, they would work on the change, ask questions and then a price was sent back reflecting the change. This process was slow and had opportunity for mis-communication. With access and training on how to use Nucor's estimating software Double P can get real time quotes as changes are made, giving Owners the information they need to make smart decisions for their building. For more complicated issues Nucor's estimating staff can respond quickly to alternates and design changes with pricing much quicker because they receive the changes through the estimating software we use. This also practically eliminates mis-communication.

Timber Lakes Metal Building

Double P Construction completed a maintenance shop for the Timber Lakes Road and Water departments, which is now in full operation. The shop is split into two separate sides to individually serve the two departments, including all utilities (electric, water, sewer and heat). The total square footage of the building is just over 6,100 square feet, measuring 137' x 45'. Offices, restrooms and Mezzanine storage space were built within the metal building from conventional wood framing increasing the utility of the overall structure. Shop space is large enough to accommodate 10-wheel dump trucks, graders, back-hoes and snow throwing machines both for storage and routine maintenance. All bays of the shop include "oil changing pits" for easy access to the underside of the equipment. The space is heated by a combination of radiant heat and forces air unit heaters.

Because the building is within the Timber Lakes community, steps were taken to make the exterior of the building fit in with the local architecture and minimize the visual impact of the large structure. The front of the building has a heavy timber shed roof and columns, with a heavy timber truss at the front doors. The wood work breaks up the large metal wall helping the building aesthetic. Snow and rain is diverted from the doors to the building protecting entries. Exterior lighting is also a sensitive issue to nearby residences, and sky friendly lighting was installed to keep the light shinning directly to the ground where it is needed and not laterally to adjacent houses, or up into the sky. Metal Buildings

The Geneva Project includes three metal buildings, each with a distinct use. A pre-engineered building was erected to house the concrete admixture chemicals. A second, conventionally engineered building, encloses bins that hold aggregate to be conveyed to the concrete mixer. The Third and largest building stands 85 feet high and holds the entire concrete mixer plant. Included in the building is a Mezzanine, equipment hoist, removable wall panel, and mixer truck drive through.
