Steel Building Pricing

Steel continues to drop, it is at it's lowest in 4 years and for a steel building contractor this is good news. As the economy attempts to recover Owners now have a great opportunity to build for less. Competition for steel erection has also forced labor prices down as well, which can be great for an owner as long as the contractors bid is responsible. Buyer beware of change order artist in this market, some dishonest companies will bid too low just to get the job and once the Contract is signed will find ways to change order the project to make up the money needed to get the job done. If a contractor is willing to stoop to this level, what other tricks will they pull? Cutting corners, shotty workmanship and uninsured or unsafe work can be expected, and a once good deal could end up costing a lot of money.
Good steel building erectors are out there, as with everything a lot of questions should be asked to truly get the best value from your contractor.

Equestrian Riding Arena

Pre-engineered steel buildings are ideal for horse riding arenas because of the ability to have a free span. It is easy for a steel building to span 80 feet, which is a good sized space for indoor riding. Double P Construction completed a riding arena for a private Owner in Park City, Utah that measured 120 feet x 80 feet. The client is happy with the size and for most users this is an excellent size. Steel buildings can span larger spaces, even with the high snow loads in Summit County. We have also built arenas for commercial clients that are larger.

Steel buildings can also be outfitted with different exteriors depending on the look needed. A standard steel sheeting is the most economical, however the exterior can be any material. Following are a couple of photos, first a riding arena with steel sheeting, then a building with natural stone, and wood.

Both buildings are very nice but you can see the difference in what the outside of the building can look like.

There are good options to include stall barns attached to the arena that can be incorporated into the steel building package, or can be built out of conventional wood framing. Existing building can be married to a new arena with careful planning and engineering with no problem.

If you want to ride year around consider an indoor riding arena, the value of a steel building can not be beat for value, strength, and looks. Give us a call today to talk about your riding arena.

Authorized Nucor Builder

Double P Construction has become an authorized supplier and builder of Nucor Building Systems pre-engineered metal buildings. Nucor Building Systems is a leading manufacturer of metal building systems including the industrial, commercial, warehouse, community, and agricultural markets. The nationwide authorized Nucor Builder network consists of over 600 of the best design-build contractors in the business, providing exceptional solutions, on time, and within budget.

As a member of the Metal Building Manufacturers Association, Nucor Building Systems’ manufacturing and engineering policies, practices, and procedures are audited annually. The metal building industry certification process reviews raw materials, design specifications, software, building code compliance, and quality control procedures. The process assures the structural integrity and quality of our Nucor steel building systems.

The value that Double P can offer is even more strong with this metal building manufacturer's ability to produce high quality product at prices lower then we have seen in the market recently. A true design build approach is more possible because of Double P's ability to design buildings with Nucor's software as building parameters are developed. The old way was to work with in-house estimators for all building costs through the design phase of the project. With every change to the design information was sent to the building manufacturer, they would work on the change, ask questions and then a price was sent back reflecting the change. This process was slow and had opportunity for mis-communication. With access and training on how to use Nucor's estimating software Double P can get real time quotes as changes are made, giving Owners the information they need to make smart decisions for their building. For more complicated issues Nucor's estimating staff can respond quickly to alternates and design changes with pricing much quicker because they receive the changes through the estimating software we use. This also practically eliminates mis-communication.

If you need a metal building, you will not find a better value then what Double P Construction and Nucor can offer.

Timber Lakes Metal Building

Double P Construction completed a maintenance shop for the Timber Lakes Road and Water departments, which is now in full operation. The shop is split into two separate sides to individually serve the two departments, including all utilities (electric, water, sewer and heat). The total square footage of the building is just over 6,100 square feet, measuring 137' x 45'. Offices, restrooms and Mezzanine storage space were built within the metal building from conventional wood framing increasing the utility of the overall structure. Shop space is large enough to accommodate 10-wheel dump trucks, graders, back-hoes and snow throwing machines both for storage and routine maintenance. All bays of the shop include "oil changing pits" for easy access to the underside of the equipment. The space is heated by a combination of radiant heat and forces air unit heaters.

Because the building is within the Timber Lakes community, steps were taken to make the exterior of the building fit in with the local architecture and minimize the visual impact of the large structure. The front of the building has a heavy timber shed roof and columns, with a heavy timber truss at the front doors. The wood work breaks up the large metal wall helping the building aesthetic. Snow and rain is diverted from the doors to the building protecting entries. Exterior lighting is also a sensitive issue to nearby residences, and sky friendly lighting was installed to keep the light shinning directly to the ground where it is needed and not laterally to adjacent houses, or up into the sky. Lights were handpicked by and purchased from www.starrynightlights.com .

Thanks to all of the subcontractors that helped make this project a success and to the great working relationship with the Timber Lakes HOA.

Metal Buildings

The Geneva Project includes three metal buildings, each with a distinct use. A pre-engineered building was erected to house the concrete admixture chemicals. A second, conventionally engineered building, encloses bins that hold aggregate to be conveyed to the concrete mixer. The Third and largest building stands 85 feet high and holds the entire concrete mixer plant. Included in the building is a Mezzanine, equipment hoist, removable wall panel, and mixer truck drive through.
This Batch Plant is a state of the art facility and shows the variety of uses metal buildings provide.

Retaining Wall Completion

We finished the retaining wall and are in the process of backfilling in preparation to start construction on the office building. The footings contain a shear key and the wall itself was constructed with slip joints for any expansion or contraction. Weep holes were placed every 25' and a perferated drain pipe sits at the base of the wall to drain excess water. The edges of the retaining have been chamfered to give the wall a finished look as the top portion of the wall will remain exposed.

Geneva Rock Park City

Double P started it’s latest project last week, it is a new batch plant complex for Geneva Rock in Park City, Utah. Geneva Rock was established in 1954 and is currently the largest ready mix concrete supplier in Utah. Double P Construction has been a customer of Geneva Rock for years and is proud to be hired as a general contractor for their new batch plant.

Double P has been contracted to build a retaining wall and four buildings for Geneva Rock. The retaining wall is 180 feet long and varies in height from 7’ to 11’ tall walls. This structure must be completed first, because the Office Building will be built above, approximately 10 feet from the wall. The Office is a two story wood framed building that will house the plant mixer controls and also will serve as administrative offices for Geneva. Double P will perform all of the building activities from excavation to finish.

The second building will enclose the plant mixer, and will have a height of 78 feet. It is steel construction and Double P will perform the CMU work, steel building erection and exterior siding work. Adjacent to the plant mixer building another steel building that will hold admixtures used in different concrete designs will be built. All construction will be performed by Double P for the admixture building. Last a steel building to hold aggregates will be constructed nearby so that the material can be moved with a conveyor directly into the mixer plant.

These additions and improvements will add to the capabilities of the batch plant and aid in the production of concrete for Geneva Rock.
